Blaise Castle Gwent League “dry” run – further information

The plan for the “dry” run is to meet at the Blaise Castle clubhouse at 10am. We’ll then go through what to expect on the day in terms of the course, timetable of races, parking etc. Once we’ve covered that and any questions, we’ll go for a run. The women’s course is 2 laps covering 5900 meters whilst the men do 3 laps covering 10000 meters. Following the run we’ll meet back at the clubhouse to see how it went and to answer any further questions you may have.

The course will be lightly marked – don’t expect it all to be taped off as it will be on the actual race day.

What do you need to bring? Yourselves, ideally cross country spikes, if not off road trainers, if not your normal trainers.  As it’s cross country, it can get a little slippy in places, so the more grip you have the better it’ll be.

The clubhouse will be open so you can leave any belongings there or in your car. If somebody will be at the clubhouse the entire time it’ll be left open if not, it’ll be locked whilst we’re on the run.

Bristol 10K – discounted club entries

The Bristol 10K takes place on Sunday, May 31st 2015 and the organisers are once again offering clubs a big discount on entries. Up to 35% is available of the normal price meaning that if we get 20 members or more the entry fee will be £15.60 instead of £24 (plus a £3 online booking fee). In the unlikely event that we do not get 20 entrants, you will be asked to pay an additional fee, but this is not expected to be the case.

So what’s the process you have to follow?

  • You must be a fully paid up member of the club.
  • You can pay using 3 different methods:
    • By PayPal – send a payment to Geraint.torrington@blueyonder.co.uk for £15.60. Use the “I’m sending money to family or friends” and not “I’m paying for goods or services”– Geraint is not a merchant and will not accept any additional charges; if £15.60 is not on his account he will not process the entry. Send an email to secretary@westburyharriers.co.uk from the email address that you’d like the organisers to send your access code to indicating that you’ve paid via PayPal.
    • By bank transfer – Geraint’s bank details are GH & SE TORRINGTON, 30-93-53 00722429. Please make sure that you know the reference and send it in an email to secretary@westburyharriers.co.uk from the email address that you’d like the organisers to send your access code to.
    • Write a cheque made payable to Bristol City Council (Bristol 10K) for £15.60. Write your name, email address and contact number CLEARLY on the back. If these details are not on the back of the cheque or not clear your cheque will be returned.  Cash will not be accepted by Geraint. Give your cheque to club secretary Geraint Torrington on a Monday night (Geraint can’t generally make Thursdays) or post it to him at 41A Sherbourne Avenue, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 8DX
  • Entries need to be with Geraint by end of Saturday, February 14th 2015, no late entries will be accepted.
  • When the entries have been received they will be sent to the organisers in one block who will then send an email to the entrant with a code to use to bypass the payment screen on line. NOTE:  Your entry to the race is NOT complete until you enter online. Sending the payment in does not mean you are entered.

Volunteers needed

Hi everyone

The first Westbury fixture of 2015 is on Sunday 8th February at Blaize. Hopefully lots of you get out on the ’dry’ run later this month.
We need lots of volunteers on the day, to help set up the course, marshall the carpark, help with tea and then out on the course to direct people in the right direction and shout out lots of encouragement to everyone daft enough to run as a pastime!!
The Gwent races are always lots of fun and a great way to cheer on your club and eat cake!
Can everyone who can help out contact me on Facebook or email me at carolfee36@gmail.com, or text on 07813675681
We need some people from 7.30 to set up, registration starts at 10.45 and the last race starts at 2.10pm, so we’ll need people throughout the day. Let me know when you are available.

Thanks

Looking forward to hounding you all for another year!!

Blaise Castle Gwent League “dry” run

The Gwent League at Blaise Castle takes place on Sunday, February 8th. We know that some people are unsure about taking part in them as they don't know what to expect. This run is intended to give you an idea of what to expect on the day. We'll try and do the same route which is around 5K for the women and 9.5K for the men.

If you're a Gwent League regular, you're more than welcome to come along and test your legs the week before and to help some fellow members.

It doesn't matter what group you run with on Monday night, the Gwent League is for everybody.

The club house will be open so that we can have a chat before and after the run.

Bristol 10K and Half Marathon discounted club entries

The entries for the Bristol 10K are now open and the club will be operating the discounted club entry scheme as we've done for the past few years. As long as you're fully paid up members the discount will probably be 35% resulting in an entry fee of £17.55 instead of £27 + £3 on-line fee, so a significant saving. Details of the scheme will be published in the next couple of weeks, so hold off entering just yet.

There is an offer on the Run Bristol website gives you entry to both the 10K and Half Marathon for £50. If we get sufficient numbers (which we normally do quite easily), the 10K price will be £17.55 and the Half Marathon £24.05 so an even better deal than the £50 for both deal. General entries to the Half Marathon do not open until March, so the club scheme will not start before then.
