After a last-minute change of venue from Stafford Common to Prestwold Hall, Loughborough due to water-logged ground, fewer Westbury Harriers made it to the Midland Cross Country Championships than in previous years, but that didn't keep our juniors from still bringing home some well-deserved silverware.

Ellie Hobbs took gold in the U15 girls event, while older sister Hannah Hobbs secured silver in the U17 race. Hannah's teammates, Rosie Allen and Sophie Reed, also finished well, bringing home the U17 women's team bronze.

There was a great turn-out among the junior boys too, who battled biting cold winds to race well in sticky conditions.

Midlands Cross-Country Championships Change of Venue

There has been a late change of venue for this Saturday’s Midlands Cross-Country Championships, to Loughborough, as the original venue (Stafford Common) is under water.  Hopefully your team manager has already contacted you about this.  At the time of writing, we are still waiting for updated course maps and timetables, but the venue postcode is LE12 5SQ.

BMAF cross country championships are being held at Bath university on Sunday 13th March. Distance 6k.
We need teams of three in age groups V35, V45, V55 and V65.

This competition requires proof of age with entry so we need a photocopy of your passport, driving licence or birth certificate as soon as possible. Also UKA number. I will be at Coombe Dingle on Mon & Thur from 18.45 to collect the paperwork or if anyone would like more information.

Blaise Blazer organisation

The Blaise Blazer takes place on the first Monday of June, July and August and the club needs your help in organising it.

Over the years we have predominantly relied on the same small group of volunteers to make the events happen. At the meeting to discuss the future of the races, we said that we’d need more people to help out, not only to lighten the load on the current volunteers, but also to bring in new ideas of what we can do with the races.

Brighton Marathon – club places, deadline is Friday, 8th January

A reminder that the draw for the Brighton Marathon places will be made shortly after the deadline closes this Friday, January 8th at midnight. The price to enter this is £68.50 and as stated below you must be a fully paid up member to be entered into the draw - there will be no exception to this.


The club has received the following from England Athletics:

"England Athletics is pleased to inform you that all affiliated clubs can now access guaranteed places at the Brighton Marathon, one of the UK’s largest marathons. The 2016 event, due to take place on April 17th, is now sold out to all but charity runners, but affiliated clubs can still access their guaranteed places."

The club has been allocated 4 places for this and must pass the information on to the organisers by January 15th 2016. The organisers will contact the athletes directly to complete the entry process.

If you want to try and get a place, send an email to brighton@westburyharriers.co.uk. If more than 4 people apply a draw will take place. Names must be received by midnight on Friday, January 8th 2016 and you must be a fully paid up member on this date  - if you haven't renewed your membership for 2016, your entry will not be accepted.

Training – Monday, January 4th 2016

The Coombe Dingle complex is closed on Monday, January 4th and as such the following groups will not be running:

  • Reception group (looked after by Warren Pickles)
  • Girls (Simon Johnston)
  • Boys (Neil Miller)

The adult groups will be running, but as we will not have access to the car park, please park considerately on the adjacent roads - walk/run the extra few meters rather than block somebody's drive or park in a dangerous place.
