Richard Bloss Personality of the Year award

In 2013 the club unfortunately lost one of its greatest personalities, Richard Bloss, after a short battle with cancer. Before he passed away he was presented with an award named in his honour, the Richard Bloss Personality of the Year.

The club awards night takes place on Monday, April 25th and for this award we’d like you to choose the recipient. So between now and midnight on April 2nd, send your nominations to personality@westburyharriers.co.uk. Once we've got the nominees, we’ll put the list up on the website so that people can vote for their Richard Bloss Personality of the Year with the winner announced at the awards evening.

You and the person you nominate must be a member of the club. If you haven’t joined yet you can do so at www.westburyharriers.co.uk by selecting ‘How to join’ on the home page.

Bristol 10k – entry details sent

If you've paid for the Bristol 10K through the club you will have been sent an email with the process you need to follow to enter the race.

The email was probably sent from a greatrun email address, so please check all your email folders for the entry instructions.

You will not be entered into the race unless you follow the instructions in the email.

Bristol 10K

For those of you waiting to enter the Bristol 10K via the club discount, please be patient.

The entry procedure is nearly completed from an administration perspective and the hope is that you'll get the entry links by this weekend.

Welsh Castles Relay

Colin Johnson has secured the club an entry into the 2016 Welsh Castles Relay.

It is a relay race over the 4th/5th June and will consist of a mixed team of 20 plus runners that can run approximately 10 to 13 miles each. It's a fantastic weekend as a team event running the length of Wales being supported by your team members over each leg.

An event will be created on the Westbury Harriers Facebook site and will be asking for people to sign up and pay a deposit because we need to have ALL team members registered including any subs by 23rd May.

If you want further information please either see the Facebook site or contact
Colin by email

The rules changes were accepted by those present with the most significant change being to rule 9:

“Members will have 30 days grace in which to renew their subscriptions. Members who have not renewed their yearly subscriptions within 60 days will not be eligible to represent the CLUB in competitions.

Membership will be offered at a discounted rate until March 31st after which time the membership will increase by £10.”

So if you have not renewed your membership you need to do it by the end of March to avoid paying an extra £10.

The proposal to move the training time on a Monday was not passed. It was acknowledged that the current structure of leaving at 19.10 and returning by 20.00 was not always adhered to but by enforcing this would resolve the issue of groups returning late with children waiting.

Membership renewal reminder

Most of you will have received an email from England Athletics recently setting out their new rules on registration in competitions held under UKA Rules.

We as a club register you with England Athletics once we receive your completed/renewed registration on the website.  We do this by sending them one file on the 1st April with all of our paid up members, after this we have to update each individual person one at a time.

It is important that your details on our website are up to date and correct, you can do this by editing your profile once you have logged in.  Your details also need to be up to date on the EA portal, you can log in here with your email address or your EA/URN number.  We often find people mistype their name or date of birth which means that their EA account is not renewed so please be careful.

Please note that even if you don't represents us at races or you don't enter races where you get a discount for being affiliated with Westbury Harriers, everyone that attends club runs needs to have an account on the website.

Those of you that have already renewed for 2016, thank you.  You will find that your membership card for this year contains your EA/URN number (you need for most races).  Your membership card can be found by clicking on 'Resources' tab once you have logged in to the website.

Those of you that haven't renewed yet, you will be receiving a separate email to remind you but please do renew as soon as possible.  If you don't intend on renewing please let us know if you just want a year off or if you want to resign from the club.

Thanks

James

AGM information

The AGM takes place on Monday, March 14th after training. The meeting will decide who will run the club for the members for the next year and it’s the membership who will decide this.

The Agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  • Apologies for absence
  • Adoption of minutes from previous AGM
  • Chairman's report
  • Presentation of club accounts
  • Team managers' reports
  • Pavilion committee report
  • Club rule changes
  • Proposal to change the time of Monday night training
  • Election of officers
  • Election of life members and vice presidents
  • Any other business

The rules changes that are proposed are as follows:

Rule 9

Current:

“Members will have 30 days grace in which to renew their subscriptions. Members who have not renewed their yearly subscriptions within 60 days will not be eligible to represent the CLUB in competitions. The affiliation subscription will not be accepted if the membership subscription is overdue.

Members who have not renewed their subscriptions by the 31st August 1st April, will be liable to an additional £5 fine, and if still not renewed by the 31 October, the fine due will be £10.”

Proposed:

“Members will have 30 days grace in which to renew their subscriptions. Members who have not renewed their yearly subscriptions within 60 days will not be eligible to represent the CLUB in competitions.

Membership will be offered at a discounted rate until March 31st after which time the membership will increase by £10.”

Reason for proposed change:

The fine has not actively been imposed. The club makes the England Athletics (EA) affiliation payment in April and can do this as a one off bulk load. Subsequent payments to EA have to be done on a one by one basis which is a lot more time consuming.

Rule 11

Current:

“Every applicant for membership shall be proposed and seconded by members and each application for membership shall be referred to the committee, who have the authority to accept or reject the application. Membership shall commence from the date of election by the committee.”

Proposed:

“Each application for membership shall be referred to the committee, who have the authority to accept or reject the application. Membership shall commence from the date of election by the committee.”

Reason for proposed change:

The online membership form does not require a proposer and seconder, but the committee must still reserve the right to reject the application.

Rule 19
Current:

At each AGM four members shall be elected to serve on the joint pavilion committee with Bristol United Banks Cricket Club. Two of these members shall be appointed trustees in whom the assets of the club shall vest.

Proposed:

Remove rule. With the club taking sole control of the pavilion from the cricket club, there will be no joint pavilion committee. A pavilion committee is still required but can be accommodated under rule 4 “The committee shall have the power to appoint any subcommittee for a specific purpose and to co-opt any person to serve on such a subcommittee.”

Please make every effort to attend the AGM. If you’d like to stand for a role at the AGM you can view the job descriptions here. You can either put your name forward on the night or in advance to the current club secretary Geraint Torrington.
