AVON 10K CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017 / Hogweed Trot

Avon AAA 10K Championships  / Hogweed Trot

Monday 22nd May 2017  7 p.m.

The Avon 10K championships were held as part of the Hogweed Trot (formerly the Yate 10K).

Hogweed Trotters (based in Chipping Sodbury) had attracted a full entry of 500 and put on a well organised race based at Yate Town's clubhouse with the course on quiet country lanes.

Westbury Harriers had a small (but high quality ! ) turnout with our Vet Men in particularly good form and coming away with a good haul of titles and medals.

The Westbury racers were headed by race winner Anthony Glover.  Anthony, a Sodbury local, led in the field and was well clear in a time of 34.47.

Robin Phillips (37.22) is in fine form at the moment and was 4th overall and 1st MV40.

Junior runner Ben Rawlins (16) was next in for Westbury with a controlled, steady run to win the U18 category in 38.14 (but could not take the Avon County title as he has represented Gloucestershire this year).

Ewan, Anthony, Ben and Robin

Nick Bennett was 5th Senior man in a time of 38.46 closely followed by Ewan Paton (V45) who continued his fine series of results with 39.06.

Great run from Chris O’Donovan (9th Senior man) who broke through 40 mins to record 39.27.   Well done Chris – still more to come !

David George, like Anthony, another one on “home turf”, turned in another great run of 42.50 to win the Avon AAA Vet 60 title – and was home in Old Sodbury with his feet up and enjoying a cold beer before the prizes were handed out !

Trevor Fitsall with a PB of 45.13 looked comfortable all the way and was followed home by another local Mike Mewse who recorded a respectable 46.34.

Ian Derrick (somehow going incognito as we can’t find his result !) and Nicola Derrick (60.15) did well and well done to Eithne Noonan (55.41) and Kay Ridgwell (56.37) who had good runs in the warm conditions.

Winners Results :

Anthony Glover   1st overall     1st MV40 and Avon County AAA 10K Champion.

Robin Phillips        1st MV 40     Avon County AAA 10K Champion

Ewan Paton           1st MV45      Avon County AAA 10K Champion

David George        1st MV 60     Avon AAA County 10K Champion

Ben Rawlins           1st Under 18

Bristol Half Marathon 2017 – discounted club entries

The Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 17th 2017 and the organisers are offering clubs a 20% discount on entries. If we get 20 members or more the entry fee will be £31.20 instead of £39. We must get at least 20 entries for the discount to be applicable; we have exceeded this number massively in the past so this is not expected to be a problem.

So what’s the process you have to follow?

▪ You must be a fully paid up member of the club.

▪ You can pay using 3 different methods:

▪ By PayPal – send a payment to PayPal.Me/CarolFee for £31.20. Send an email to carolfee36@gmail.com from the email address that you’d like the organisers to send your access code to indicating that you’ve paid via PayPal.

▪ By bank transfer –bank details are CAROL A FEE, 11-00-01 19056268. Please make sure that you know the reference and send it in an email to carolfee36@gmail.com from the email address that you’d like the organisers to send your access code to.

▪ Write a cheque made payable to Carol Fee for £31.20. Write your name, email address and contact number CLEARLY on the back. If these details are not on the back of the cheque or not clear your cheque will be returned.  Cash will not be accepted. Give your cheque to Carol Fee on a Monday night or post it to her at 100 Clover Ground, Bristol, BS9 4UL.

▪ Entries need to be with Carol by end of Sunday, June 18th 2017; no late entries will be accepted.

▪ When the entries have been received they will be sent to the organisers in one block. An email will be sent to the entrant with details of how to enter. NOTE:  Your entry to the race is NOT complete until you enter online. Sending the payment in does not mean you are entered.
