Results and Photos from the Westbury Wipeout

Here are the results and photos from the 2017 Westbury Wipeout.  A big thank-you to all the many volunteers who made this event a great success, and congratulations to all participants on getting round a challenging course with such enthusiasm.  No-one was eaten by crocodiles this year, so perhaps we need to think up some new challenges for next year's event, which will be around about the same time in July 2018.  Chris has asked for some barbed wire for next time, to help him get everyone behind the start line!

Vets Manager July Report

Veteran Men         July Report 2017

From Mike Mewse  Vets Team Manager

As we get into the summer it’s good to see the vet men competing in a range of races and putting in some fine performances.

Avon County cross country champion Ken Ham (V50) has continued his good form on the roads, winning the Aztec Fast 5 series in the V55 category.

Another Aztec series winner was Richard Noble whose hard training regime paid off with a win in the Vet 45 category. Ewan Paton (V45), another Avon County champion at 10k, maintained his form and had a good run at Beacon Batch (42.31) but has recently succumbed to injury - just when we wondering if we would see his track debut. Hopefully he will be back very soon. Team mate in the V45 Trevor Fitsall is a runner in from and improving rapidly with a series of good 10k races and a 21.19 Aztec clocking.

Ken Lovell (V65) continues to be a prolific runner in training and race and recorded a good 53.46 on a warm evening at the Clevedon 10K.

Nice to see Alex Miller (V40) back on form with determined runs at the Aztec 5K Mob Match (19.50), Beacon Batch 45.37 and a quick 41.47 at Nailsea, where he was followed in by Vet 60s David George with a  43.27 (just pipped to another V60 win) and Mike Mewse with a 45.44.

Rich Hughes (V50) amazes everyone with his ability to run so well in several races a week and has had good runs at Clevedon (45.02) and Beacon Batch (49.19) as well as Aztec.

Two other V50s who have put in good runs lately – Ian Derrick who looked comfortable and finished strongly for a good 21.42 at Aztec (after cruising around the Bristol 10K) and Mike Hopkins enjoying the summer sunshine at Clevedon to record a 48.33.

Good to see Geraint Torrington back in form with fine performances in the Bristol triathlon and the Cotswold Way relay.

Clive Attwood (V50) continues to be a bit elusive but good to see him getting in a very respectable 48.36 at Beacon Batch.

Another Westbury vet in good form is Nigel Gates. Nigel is one of the top ranked V60s and was recently the European V60 Triathlon champion. He is coming into good form at the moment with sub 40 minute 10K clockings and 4th overall and 1st V60 in the tough and hilly Bridport duathlon. Looking forward to seeing Nigel on the track during the season.

Well done to the Vet Men who contributed to our fine 2nd place in the 5K Inter Club Mob Match.

Looking forward to seeing a good vets turn out at the 10k Mob Match – just £2 entry on the night – on the Towpath route on Friday 14th July. Its a great event and we've got great strength in depth for an event where every position counts.
