Club Charity Run

Thank you to everyone who supported the club charity run last night.  Around £200 was raised for the Friends of Blaise.

It may have been a little damp at the start, but the youngsters return to the clubhouse was greeted with a great rainbow.  The seniors missed out on the rainbow, and took out their frustration on the photographer...

Kings Weston Junior Parkrun Gets Off to a Great Start

IMG_0395_aDespite torrential rain before the event, 28 youngsters turned out for the inaugural Kings Weston Parkrun on Sunday.  In the end the storm abated, leaving just the odd muddy puddle in the way of our brave juniors.  Many congratulations to all participants, to Warren Pickles for making the event happen, and to all the volunteers.  Results are already online here:

This event is now weekly, on a great, scenic course, and we hope to see more youngsters giving it a go.  Don't forget to register before your first time, print and bring your barcode along, and present it with your finishers disk after you've finished (a couple of 'Unknown' in the results probably didn't hand in their disk and barcode).

We're also looking for volunteers to help in future weeks.  It doesn't have to be every week; even if you just helped out once a month that would be great.  Please sign up as a volunteer on the Parkrun website with the dates you can make.

Members of the Month

Many congratulations to our members of the month:

  • Colin Johnson for resurrecting our presence at the Welsh Castles Relay (in inimitable style); and
  • Ellie Wallace, Hannah Hobbs and Ellie Leather, who finished an amazing 4th, 6th and 7th in the English Schools 1500m championships in Gateshead.

Up and Running gift vouchers will be winging their way to you.

TrustFord Westbury Wipeout Results

Results from the 2015 TrustFord Westbury Wipeout can be found here: Westbury_Wipeout_2015_Results

We may have missed one or two out at the finish, so if your name is missing (or anything else is wrong) please email Neil at  For omissions, please let us know the vest numbers (or names) you finished just ahead of/behind.

We're sorry about the bottleneck on the 'Descent of Doom', but thank you everyone for your patience (and also for those who pulled our hare out of the swamp!)  A couple of the under 10 leaders may have missed a bit towards the end, but - hey - this was a fun run not a race, and the 'results' are for interest only.

If you have any comments or feedback on the event, please email Neil at

Photos from the Westbury Wipeout

Results from last night will follow, but here are some photos of some of the action.  A big thank-you to Carol and all the many helpers who made this event happen.

TrustFord Westbury Wipeout – Entries on the Day

With advanced entries now closed, there are 58 places remaining for those who want to enter on the day.  Since last year we had well over 100 youngsters turning up to enter on the day, please arrive early if you have not pre-entered, and be aware that you might not be lucky.  Entries on the day cost £8; we will have entry forms available, or you can save time by downloading it and filling it in before you come: WestburyWipeout2015_DoubleEntryForm (there are 2 forms per sheet).  The entry desks will open at 6pm.

There will be separate entry desks for advanced entries under and over 10, so please check that you get in the right queue.

Please remember to check the Westbury Wipeout 2015 - Instructions to Participants and Westbury Wipeout 2015 - 'Be Water Aware' Health Advice Card Leaflets.

The Hare

We are fortunate this year to have British Junior International Adam Potter who will act as hare for the event.  Adam has twice competed in the world junior orienteering championships, and loves running on the rough stuff.

Car Parking

We expect the car park to be very busy this year, so arrive early and be prepared to walk.

Photos from the Blaise Blazer

Massage at the Blaise Balzer

Kate Griffiths, a local sports massage therapist who runs Optimal Soft Tissue Therapy, is coming to the Blaise Blazer this evening, and will be offering free 15 minute massages to get rid of those post race aches and pains.   Kate is experienced in working with athletes and is very aware of how individual runners' needs are. Kate has treated a number of Westbury members and has only positive feedback!

Kate will be around from 6.45 p.m. to meet everyone and introduce herself. All you need to do is sign your name up when you arrive for the race and she will then massage those tired legs following the event.  It would be great if we could have an idea of how many people are interested, so if you are keen to be seen, please email or comment on the post on Facebook.

For those of you who are not running on Thursday, you can always make the most of Kate's skills and expertise by telephoning Kate on 07747 753192 to arrange an appointment.

TrustFord Westbury Wipeout 2015 – Calling All Hands

Just a quick reminder that advance entries close on Friday (3/7) for the 2015 TrustFord Westbury Wipeout, which will take place at Blaise Castle a week on Monday (6th July).  With more than 180 of the 300 places already filled, there is no guarantee that entries will be available on the day (and advance entries will close early once all places are filled).  This challenging multi-terrain adventure run for youngsters aged 8 to 15 takes you on a tour of the woods, streams and hills of the Blaise Castle Estate.  Please see the 'Westbury Wipeout' Events page for full details and links.

Opportunities for Older Youngsters (15 – 18)

If you are a ‘regular’ youngster with the club, but just too old to participate, we are looking for some older youngsters (154 - 18) to run round ‘embedded’ in the run, looking out for problems and helping participants as necessary.  You get to do the event for free (but no T-Shirt or medal I’m afraid).  15 year-olds can opt to either enter to participate or help out. If you would like to do this, please turn up at the normal time and report to Nick Elliott (one of the girls’ leaders).

Helpers Needed – Please Please Please

A large event like this can only take place thanks to an army of volunteers – This Means You (parents and seniors).  If you can help on the night please let Carol know in advance.  Please give her your mobile phone number and when you can get there (the earlier the better).

Parking at a Premium

It is likely that the car park will be very busy, so allow extra time in case you have to walk.

Westbury Wipeout Entries Now Open

Entries are now open for this year's Westbury Wipeout, which will be held at Blaise Castle on Monday 6th July.

This year we are using an online entry system to make our lives easier, and paper entries will not be accepted.  We'll announce whether there are any spaces left for entries on the night here once advanced entries have closed (3/7/15).

Please see the 'Westbury Wipeout' page (off the website's 'Events' tab) for further details and link.
